I know I have harped on this before.  RLC is not a game to all people.  It is has been said a hundred ways, and a lot of people take offense when it is called a game.  Then there are others that get pissy when you tell them it is not just a game.  It is both, and more.  Mostly, it is what you make of it. But this post is not about that, it is about going beyond fantasy land, beyond the game, it is about being a social networking site. More...

This is just a small annoyance of mine and the Social Center.  When I send an e-mail through the social center, it is formatted pretty much the way I type it.  Much like my blogs show up the same way as I type them.  When I hit the enter key once, I get a line break.  When I put two line breaks together it is a new paragraph.  I know that this is a minor issue, but for those who write longer bulletins, it is kind of nice to have it user friendly, and readable.  As you can tell by reading my blog posts, I try to be user friendly, and break up my paragraphs well.  I don't have one long paragraph that runs together.  Of course, let's not talk about my sentences, as they can be run on for days.  lol More...

I was reading through the bulletins the other day, and I saw a post that I have seen before.  Nope, not even one that you repost, not the type that are the different surveys, but one I have seen in different forms from different users.  It is one of a few posts that I have seen that several people cycle through.  My friend had posted that he was going to not be in RLC as much anymore, due to personal reasons.  For the people who have been in RLC for awhile, I am sure you have seen it.  This is usually the end of a cycle, but it is a good end.

The cycle goes like this:

  • New user, in awe of what RLC is all about - is in RLC for 4-8 (or more) hours a day
  • Meets great new people, makes a lot of friends.  Maybe meets one in RL
  • Drama starts with them (see my previous post on drama)
  • Drama gets bad, and the person leaves RLC for good
  • They come back
  • They keep good friends, stays on for hours and hours again
  • User realizes that their real life is deteriorating, and needs to get back on track.
  • User lives in Real Life and RLC happily More...

Well, I was poking around profiles the last couple of days.  I also wanted to update my look and feel.  This made me think that I wanted to write a little on what to do with your Utherverse profile.  This is not a tutorial on how to, it is more of a 'what not to do' to your profile.  You can go to any 'My Space' profile editing site and find pre-built profiles for your page.  The problem I have is that there area lot of bad templates out there.

While I was looking for a profile, there were about half a dozen that I really liked the background image, but that was about it.  Keep in mind, that your profile does more than just look nice.  It's purpose is to tell people about you.  So, if the background makes the words hard to read, I personally feel that the profile has failed.  But, that is not the only problems I have seen.  The following are pet peeves of mine. One of the features of the RLC 3D community that sets it apart from Second Life is that it has a companion Web Site.  I have a Second Life account, but I have only logged in a few times.  I have not seen a companion web site to Second Life.  RLC in and of itself is a fantastic 3D community, where you can meet and greet people from all over the world.  But the web site that goes along with RLC is a handy way to communicate with your RLC friends when they are offline.
